2011 Hawaii Ocean Expo- April 9 & 10 (Sat-Sun)- NBC Exhibition Hall

Aloha Everyone,

The Eddie Aikau Foundation will be participating in the 2011 Hawaii Ocean Expo this weekend. If you are available, come check out our booth. We will be selling our t-shirts and recently released English/Hawaiian bi-lingual book about Eddie.

It's also a great time to come and learn about all the work the foundation is doing in the community and in our local schools.

Times are: April 9th - 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and APril 10th - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Board of Education Recognizes The Eddie Aikau Foundation

The Board of Education recognized The Eddie Aikau Foundation for their contributions to public education at their meeting on Dec 9, 2010 held at Radford High School.  Director Myra Aikau and Secretary Linda Ipsen were present to receive the award. This is quite an honor for our Foundation and a real vaildation of our annual Essay Contest and the other educational community service projects that we are involved with such as our Scholarship Program and the Bilingual Children's Book.

Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau Invitees Announced

The 26th Annual QUIKSILVER IN MEMORY OF EDDIE AIKAU
FUELED BY MONSTER ENERGY

Event Web Site Launches with Announcement of 2010/2011 Invitees and Alternates Waimea Bay, HAWAII, November 22, 2010 --- Quiksilver.com/Eddie launched today with the announcement of the 28 coveted Invitees and 24 Alternates to The Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau, fueled by Monster Energy. The event will be held on one day, between December 1, 2010 and February 28, 2011, when waves exceed the 20-foot minimum threshold and Invitees contend for the $98,000 prize purse. The traditional opening ceremony will take place at 2:30pm, December 2nd, 2010, at Waimea Bay.

Monster Energy will be presenting the Monster Drop Award for the surfer who makes the most critical drop and rides out of it during the event. The judges will determine the winner the day of the competition and will present the chosen surfer with a unique Monster Drop Specialty Award.

Eddie Aikau Foundation Scholarship Now Available

The Eddie Aikau Foundation Scholarship Program , established in 2010, seeks to recognize outstanding young people, active in the community who are making positive, significant differences - often against great odds - to promote the Hawaiian values that are such an important part of the legacy of Eddie Aikau. The scholarships are intended to lessen the financial burdens associated with valuable academic, professional, and job training opportunities.

There will be several awards given, in the amount of $1,000.00-$3,000.00 to help to cover tuition, fees, and course- related expenses.  The award will be issued directly to the student’s intended institute of continued education or training.

“Ka`ilila`au’s Canoe – A Journey of Spirit.”

Coming up is a Thanksgiving family television special produced by EMME, Inc.

Emme Tomimbang unfolds a heartwarming story of a canoe that bonds a West Maui Family, a young boy's dream and the employees of the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel. The premier presentation is Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 7:00 p.m. on KGMB with a rebroadcast on Saturday, November 27, 6:00 p.m.

Beach Clean Up - November 13, 2010

For the 3rd year, the Eddie Aikau Foundation took part in the NORTHSHORE Beach clean up on Saturday November 13th.  The volunteers met at the Waimea Bay Beach Park at 8:30 am and cleaned all of the beach park & parking lot area.  The Foundation will provided beverages and lunch for everyone after the clean up was completed.  This was a great opportunity to have THE BAY that Eddie loved looking its best for December 2nd for the Opening Ceremonies of the "2010-11 Quiksilver Big Wave Invitational in memory of Eddie".
